Fairtrade Fortnight 2013 - Fairtrade Breakfast Meeting Our Fairtrade Breakfast Meeting in March 2013 was a great success and we were heartened that so many people and businesses came to show their support and learn more about Fairtrade. The guest of honour was Henry Matenda, a smallholder from Malawi who helps run a sugar cane project. We heard from Henry how Fairtrade helps his community. Fair prices for their sugar have not only provided the families in Henry's cooperative with a better standard of living, but have also helped them establish a school and purchase an ambulance. The meeting was rounded off with a wonderful speech from our Mayor who voiced his strong support for Fairtrade. Henry continued his tour of the UK, appearing on the Great British Menu where his own sugar was used in one of the desserts for Comic Relief. Tunbridge Wells Life's photographer, David Bartholomew, took some wonderful pictures for us which can be seen at Tunbridge Wells Life .
